Get a Feel for EBS

This video is about more than the Sixth Form, it is about joining the EBS community; it gives a good idea of the school ethos across the years, how we treat our students, the opportunities available to you and how you can succeed. By joining the EBS Sixth Form, you will become a role model and an inspiration for the younger year groups. You will be given freedoms that are similar to college, but supported within a school environment.

ARE YOU READY TO SUCCEED AND DO YOUR BEST?

The EBS Sixth Form

The East Barnet School Sixth Form has been judged as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and has the best progress in the whole of Barnet for exam results, scoring in the top 5% of sixth forms nationally.

EBS has a rich history from when it was opened in 1937, educating thousands of students that have walked through our doors. We have been in a new state-of-the-art building since 2010 and our success continues to grow year on year. We offer near-on 30 courses to students, so there is sure to be something for everyone. On top of that, we run an extensive extra-curricular programme with opportunities in leadership and strong pastoral support.

We encourage students to achieve the goals they are aiming for, whether that is going on to study at university, up-skilling through apprenticeships, entering the world of work, or even joining the armed forces. We will help you every step of the way.

Amongst all the different paths our students take, the majority do go on to university, and below is a snapshot of some of the universities our former students have attended.

What About Results?

A Level Progress

Our exam success is not a stroke of luck; our results are consistently good, not just within the borough, but also nationally.

For the past three years, we have been in the top 10% of post-16 study nationally, and we are classed as ‘well above average’ for progress against other institutions offering A Levels across the country. We are proud of our results, and we hope in joining EBS, you become part of our success story.

Curriculum Booklets

If you would like to delve a little deeper into the curriculum offered at East Barnet School, you can have a look at our Year 12 and Year 13 Curriculum Booklets. Inside these booklets you will find a break-down of topics for each half term and the process used to assess. There is also a handy extended learning section at the end which illustrates specific resources that can be used for wider reading in each individual subject.

Enrichment at East Barnet School

Enrichment Lessons

Students in Year 12 follow a schedule of 5 week modules across the year that cover topics such as robotics, CAD, music technology, and creative problem solving. Students also participate in modules focused on careers, First Aid and a module led by our Writer in Residence.

Trips

There are many trips open to our Sixth Formers; recently these trips have included Geography Field Trips in Year 12, New York in Year 13, and our Legendary EBS Ski Trip! Places are usually limited on the trips, so make sure you put your name forward asap when the trips are announced.

Leadership

All Year 12 and 13 students sign up for one period of Leadership for each week; mentoring younger students, helping staff in lessons, and helping with extra-curricular clubs. This experience offers students the opportunity to develop key skills valued by both universities and employers.

Sixth Form Life

Sixth Form facilities include: the Sixth Form Study Area where students can study independently in a quiet environment, the Library, again for private study with additional resources, and then there is the Sixth Form Café where you can grab hot drinks and snacks and socialise or carry out group work.

Relax in the

Sixth Form Café

  • Hot Drinks (Tea, Coffee, Espresso, Hot Chocolate)
  • Cold Drinks (Water, Flavoured Water, Juice, Squash)
  • Hot/Cold Snacks (Paninis, Rolls, Sandwiches, Sausage Rolls)
  • Mini Bites (Cereal Bars, Pastries, Porridge, Cakes, Cookies)

Our newly refurbished Sixth Form Café is a great place to meet with friends for lunch or break. We have a varied menu available including dairy-free options for most of our products. We often have special deals and limited edition drinks for students and staff to enjoy. The Sixth Form Café is competitively priced, whilst being great quality!

Study in the

Sixth Form Study Area

  • A quiet place
  • Listen to your own music whilst studying
  • Computers available
  • Open 8:00 - 17:00 every day

The Sixth Form Study Area is a great place for students to get away from the hustle and bustle going on around the school. It is a dedicated area only for use by Sixth Form, with enough space to work either at one of the desks or at one of the computers. Students like to spend their study periods working under supervision to keep them focused.

Celebrate at the

Sixth Form Prom

  • Off-site location
  • Dress up
  • Dinner and party
  • Say goodbye in style

At the end of the two years, and after working extremely hard, we like the students to be able to celebrate one final time with all of their year group friends. The Prom is held off-site and students get to dress up, have a lovely meal, and then party the night away. Students and staff get on very well at East Barnet School, and this is a great way for everyone to commemorate their time at East Barnet School.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grades do I need to join the Sixth Form?

Every course has it’s own entry requirements, and they can all be seen inside the Course Booklet. If you have any questions about the grades needed to gain a place, please speak to a member of staff.

Can I take any combination of subjects?

We would love to be able to say yes, but unfortunately the subjects you choose do have to fit within our timetable blocks. If you have any worries about your combination of subjects, please speak to a member of staff.

Do I have to wear school uniform?

There is no school uniform for EBS Sixth Formers. That being said, students must dress in a respectable manner as you are also role models for younger students. If you do dress inappropriately for school, we have a lovely selection of lost and found items that would look great on you!

Do I have to stay in school if I don't have a lesson?

Students are able to leave school if they do not have a lesson, but many choose to stay and study in the designated areas. Students must ensure that sign in and out when leaving and re-entering the building. It is important due to changes in the timetable year on year that students are available for study between the core hours of 8:40 – 15:15, Monday to Friday.

Can students park in the school car park?

The school car park is reserved for staff only. There is a lot of street parking around the school, but we do request you take into consideration our neighbours when you park.

Where are we?

Getting Here

  • Underground: Cockfosters and Oakwood
  • Overground: Oakleigh Park
  • Bus: 307, 298, 184 and 384
  • Parking: No parking for students on-site
  • Cycling: We have ample bicycle racks for staff, students and visitors
  • Disabled Access: EBS is fully accessible in all areas for disabled visitors. Our on-site car park also has 3 dedicated disabled parking spaces; please display a blue badge when parking in a disabled space.
